will the computer throw codes? what all will i need for the removal of the system(plugs, tubing, caps)? does this affect drivability at all? TIA

 

Codes = no, at least it didnt on mine

Do a search, I did mine using a guide from this site.
You will need a plug for each mainfold, and a cap on your K&N. Mines ghetto taped with electrical tape.
It will not affect drivability at all.

 

i did a search for it and didn't come up with anything...where exactly is the pump located? i guess i could just follow the tubes coming off of the exhaust manifolds..

 

If you remove it on OBDII cars it will throw P0410. I think you can have it programmed out though. Its on the drivers side front of the engine.

I removed my AIR (an OBDII car) and didn't throw any codes.

 

97's and later with the OBDII and need to have the AIR programmed out of the PCM before the electic plug / relay is removed from the pump or there will be an SES. The car starts up and turns the pump on and checks for the change in O2 through the sensors...

Has no affect on the car other than getting the cats hotter faster in the first couple of mnutes of start up.

 

i guess if there are no performance gains i may just wait till i get LT's...or for a day that i am rather bored...

are there any other things that can be removed for possible performance increases or just to clean up the engine bay?

Since you have a 94, and its OBD-I there is only one single check that the PCM makes on the AIR system. It checks the continuity of the power supply to the AIR pump relay. As long as there is a good fuse in that circuit, you will not get the code.

Whether or not you have a cat will not affect whether you get the code in either OBD-I or OBD-II.

what do you guys use to plug the manifolds?

 

The 93, 94 and some 95 exhaust manifolds can be plugged with an M22-1.5 oil drain plug (a very close fit, and adequate). You could get them from a Dodge dealer, since they are used on the Cummins diesels in the Doge trucks. Or if your local auto parts store has a good selection of drain plugs, they might have them for a couple bucks each, or be able to order them.

For some 95's and all 96/97 engines, the diameter of the hole in the exhaust manifold is smaller.... maybe around M18???

And the required plug varies on different brands of headers, sometimes requiring a female thread cap, rather than a male thread plug.

 

I plugged mine by installing pacesetter lt's w/o emissions. :-P But no, what Injuneer said above works. Had to do that on my old 94.

 

i was begining to wonder where i could get one of those plugs from..thats good to know i can get the plug from dodge..i haven't been able to find the plug at any hardware stores like lowe's and home depot
