Air Pump or what?
Air Pump or what?
On my SS, the Scam Air duct has a nipple on it that apparently connects to the air pump (not sure). Anyway, I couldn't detect any suction from the pump side, so why is the thing there in the first place? I was thinking of either plugging up the duct or connecting a small valve cover filter on it so that a tinsy more air would be introduced to the intake.
But...perhaps the air to the pump should be filtered and that's why the connection is there.
Any guesses? I would really like to somehow introduce more air into my Scam Air system, but the opportunities seem very scarce.
Thx.

Re: Air Pump or what?
The AIR pump does require filtered air. You can use a breather on the hose if you want, rather than the connection to the intake tract. The down side to that is keeping the breather clean and protected from moisture. Moisture is the big killer of the AIR pump.

Re: Air Pump or what?
Actually, this is stupid, but I was hoping that the engine would be sucking air and that putting a small valve cover breather on the intake nipple that it could pull in more air. Obviously, the engine isn't really sucking enough to actually pull in the air.
How does a non Scam Air system filter the air to the air pump (assume that the intake plenum must feed it as well).
THanks for the explanation Fred.

Re: Air Pump or what?
along these same lines my air pump on my 95 TA is blowing the fise left and right and now i have a SES light, is it wise to ditch the air pump and program the ses light out of the ECU?

The non-ram air system also has a port off of the filtered air supply (before the MAF) to provide air to the pump.
