How exactly does the air pump work? I am installing a procharger and I wanted to know if I can remove the air pump all together or will I suffer some problems in the long run? and if I remove the airpump how can I prevent a check engine light?

The A.I.R. pump only runs on a cold startup, to help heat up the cat/cats more quickly.

I've taken mine out, along with tons of other people on the board and haven't had any prbolems.

 

You might want to mention what year your car is, because removing the pump on an OBD-II (96/97) car will require some PCM programming to prevent a code and an SES light. This is not an issue on the earlier OBD-I cars.

Are you simply concerned about the "space" issue with the blower being mounted in that area?

 

Sorry forgot to mention it is a 95 OBD1. The instructions say to reroute the air pump but I just wanted to delete it completely and not have problems.

 

In that case you'll PCM won't throw any codes and you'll have no SES light that will pop-up.

 

not to steal your thread or anything man, but what exactly is required to remove the air pump?? I want to get rid of mine also. I have a 96 OBD II, and when i have ion re-programming my computer for my ported heads and cam, can i have him delete the air pump so i can just toss that ugly looking, complicated p.o.s.
