Can I delete the air pump on a '97 without any adverse computer issues?

What would be the benefit of removing it?

Re: Air Pump Delete

It cleans up the engine bay quite a bit. Get rid of the ugly tubes off the top of the manifolds. Just gives it a cleaner look imo

Re: Air Pump Delete

I was considering doing removing the AIR Pump also. I was just wanting to know what it actually did? Thanks.

Re: Air Pump Delete

If you have stock exhaust manifolds it is not as easy as with headers. If you have the stock manifolds you will need to get a special sized bolt to thread into the manifold, I'll see about getting info on this for you. Basicallly you unbolt the air pump, which is located on the driver's side under the ignition coil and remove the air lines going to both manifolds and the air line to your intake. You must plug the intake after removal. There is a sold line that runs across the front side of block that you can remove too.

Re: Air Pump Delete

This is a good mod to do. It doesn't gain you any power but it does clean up the engine bay a good bit. It also makes waterpump, opti, and plug changes easier. Plug changes are only easier if you cut the metal tube out.

Re: Air Pump Delete

I removed mine easy. After I unbolted 3 bolts and tried to get it off the bracket it just fell apart. It was so rusted up inside I highly doubt it worked to begin with. Oh, and by the way, the metal air tube is a pain to get out.
