Air Pump?

The air pump and all it's connections really clutter up the engine bay. It really pissed me off during my water pump install last night. I am about to put my longtubes on pretty soon and they have the emissions hookups. Should I just take the air pump out of the car? How could I plug it up at the headers? I don't go through inspection yet but I am sure I will be going through it in the next 2 years or so. I guess I will probably keep the EGR on there because it really isn't in my way. Any suggestions?

PS: Can I pass inspection with the air pump removed?

Re: Air Pump?

From what I understand the air pump only runs for a few minutes on start up, to heat up the cat. So unless they are looking in your engine bay and the car has been running for a while should be fine. About the Air fittings on the headers, you will need to find two m22 oil drain plugs to thred into the bungs. This size is verry large and most places dont stock it. You might have to order it from Napa ahead of time. I found out the hard way One more thing you might want to have to cut out the metal line that wraps around the front of the engine, is a Dremel. Good luck

Re: Air Pump?

I would take it out. Just unhook connector and fittings from exhaust manifold. Plug up manifold or headers with a 22mm oil drain plug. As far as inspections I dont know, dont have them here. Its pretty simple just plug up everything when you take pump out (headers, air intake). Looks so much better without it there too.

Re: Air Pump?

I doubt you will be able to pass inspection since you would be tampering with components that are part of your pollution control...I took mine off...

Re: Air Pump?

The best price I found for an M22 drain plug was actually from the Dodge Dealership since its the plug for the cumming diesel.
