Air intake design for high hp LTx

Doing an engine swap in my 95 z and have one road block to traverse. Looking for pics of what guys have done for air intakes on high hp DAILY DRIVEN cars with a stock hood. I will be using a front feed sheet metal manifold and would like to retain the factory rad cover if at all possible so the ls lid idea is not a choice. I would appreciate pictures...napkin drawings...videos...or color by numbers at this point!

Thanks guys!

What kind of HP levels are you considering? For most the LS1 lid conversion or a ram-air setup of some kind is plenty.

DAILY DRIVEN with a stock hood, running n/a, making 740-750hp. No single plane intake?

Being honest here, I don't know if any of those will clear the stock hood.

no single plane. Front fed sheet metal tunnel ram.

pretty sure none of those will fit the stock hood.

This is what I have for now with my LS7 swap (former 396). Its a 3.5" duct made out of mandrel bends routed to the space in the front left fender.

I am working on a new custom OTR setup but that one will not retain the factory rad cover.

Re: Air intake design for high hp LTx

Thats a lot of HP to feed but I would think one of the larger LS type LID's with a ram air box underneath would help. At speed, the ram effect of the air should help give that motor what it needs but at lower speeds it may be restrictive. Most of the LS 4th gens seem to show gains at the track with the ram air boxes to the ls lids. I have one but havent tested it but its only a 375-400hp car

You dont see many builds over 700hp tho, even LSx motors. Some of the LS7 guys are up there and seem to do ok on the vette intake stuff but thats not the same as the fbody's

the larger lid should be decent for what you need.

Ricardo,

Your set up looks awesome, do you have more information on this? I am curious what you did/modified and what the filter is for or a part number? I have been looking to do something similiar, but it needs to clear my factory Z28 hood and still retain my A/C condensor, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

6772:
Originally I planned on keeping the OEM AC condenser, but after some time realized I just had to let it go. No AC for me.
I am fighting a 5-6 Kpa pressure drop when going WOT down the 1/4 and a free flowing intake seemed like more important at this time.

This setup is being built around the Be Cool radiator for the 4th gen FBody. After I installed the radiator I realized it provided some extra clearance on the upper side that can be used for an OTR intake.

I started making a template with the availiable space under the hood (2" at the radiator highest:

The filter is K&N RP-5135. It is huge. 18 3/4 x 5 x 4 13/16 I had to notch and reinforce the front member to gain sufficient clearance for the filter:

This is a cardboard 3D model of the duct I am building in SS sheet metal. I will use an LS7 card MAF installed in the 4" straight section.

That looks fun to weld up. Should look pretty cool.
