Air/fuel guage install
Air/fuel guage install
Hey guys I have a 95 z28 6 speed and I'm trying to install an air fuel ratio guage. The guage is a narrowband air fuel guage from glow shift gauges website. I tried wiring it into each of the wires coming off of my o2 sensor like the directions say but didn't make the guage work like it is supposed to. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas of another place I can try wiring the guage into or any other ideas. Thanks guys!!!
Re: Air/fuel guage install
You know all I'm asking is for some help on here and I keep getting smart *** remarks and it's getting really old!!! Sorry I don't know everything like you guys. Screw you then I'll figure it out my self!!!!
Re: Air/fuel guage install
In the harness, there is a purple/white wire for the left bank sensor and a purple wire for the right bank sensor. Alternatively, you could go to the PCM, where the purple/white wire connects to pin C20 and the purple wire connects to pin C8.
I think Dwayne was simply making sure you understood what the gauge would do in normal operation - swing back and forth rapidly between rich and lean, conveying very little useful info, other than to confirm the sensor it is attached to is working.

Shoebox has the PCM wiring and pinout diagrams:

If it bugs you that much, keep your fingers off the keyboard and save the rest of us from your snarly, elitist attitude posts.
I usually don't jump into things like this, but the guy did nothing but ask a question, yet you jump down his throat about his mistakes.........
Re: Air/fuel guage install
Whatever man. I've had this happen on here before people giving me attitude just because I don't explain it good enough or something. I guess I'll just find another place where people are actually helpful and don't just put people down because they don't know as much as they do
Re: Air/fuel guage install
I probably wouldn't do that. I don't think it is a better idea to cut into your wiring harness, because your O2 sensors are replaceable, but once your wiring harness is hacked up, it is hacked up. Maybe you should contact the manufacturer of the gauge and ask them if the wiring is correct or not, and if it still won't work, then exchange it for another one. You can look at the diagram for the O2 sensors and figure out which are the sense wires and the ground, etc and it sounds like you have your gauge powered up, so there shouldnt be too much to get it to work if it is functioning.

If we help people make mistakes then others follow along and the community never grows.
A narrowband "gauge" in a OEM fuel injected vehicle working perfectly is a useless distraction at best.
IMO it is a safety hazard to have a flashing light like that in the driver's peripheral vision. Seems like a poor idea to desensitize the driver to flashing lights in the periphery.
Every time someone posts on here about narrowband gauges both Fred and I tell them how pointless it is and guys keep buying them. Imagine how many more guys would waste money if we all just said "boy that is cool".

Help does not include demoralizing them with condescending tone. I'm sure while you were learning in school or whatever career your in, they didn't use such techniques. Put yourself in his shoes and wonder if you had to call say Sony, and get help on one of their products and the guy treated you like that on the other line... you'd be pretty pissed, right?
