AI Trickflow Heads Dyno results!

Well brought the car up to CAM today for my tune on the 383 with AI's Ported Trickflow Heads. I didn't have money for the plugs wires I needed so I just brought it up as is with the miss and all. Strapped it down and made 420hp and 398tq before the tuning began. Jeff did his computer mumbo jumbo stuff and pulled 432hp and 416tq after all was said and done, with power falling off up top because of some ignition problems. Next few weeks I'm going to pick up some MSD wires and see if that solves some of that issue. Next up is Track times I have a date with a 1/4 mile strip of pavement thursday night It'll be the soft launch hope to god the 10 bolt doesn't give up the ghost kinda runs though. I'll get the Dyno sheet up here sometime in the next day or two for everyone to see. Big Ups to AI and CAM for all the hard work though. Great people!

Great numbers for LT1 383 let alone one with a miss. I know that AI does great work and I have spoken with them about doing my bare AFR 210's for a forced induction engine of mine. Were the heads done with their new CNC setup or were they hand ported?

Hand Ported, I don't think the CNC wasavailable when I got these done. They do some badass work though.

Congrats, but I was really expecting to read that you put down 20-30 more RWHP than you did. Seems like alot of AI 383s are not putting down much higher numbers than there H/C stock shortblock cars.

Good luck at the track though

If he has an ignition problem, that might be where some of his HP loss is at. But those are still good numbers.

I'm hoping to clear up the ignition problem with the wires, if not then start hunting down the bugs. Hopefully it's the craptastic Taylors, and it might make more power. We'll see I guess.

I want to bring my carto dyno again in the fall or so, see what it does without 96* and like 1000% humidity...

Yeah, this heat and humidity is crazy. I'll be really interested in following your progress on this build.

How do you guys rate those Trick Flow heads?
Last time I've heard, people weren't about to render a verdict on these heads. Obviously, we now have somebody who's gotten good numbers out of them.
Can somebody tell me a bit more about these heads?
Like the valves size. Can you install something like 2.055 and 1.60 valves?
What are the valves size that comes with them?
Thx-Goose.

I can't really tell ya about the heads as they come in the box, mainly because they were sent straight to AI. Nice heads though. I posted up flow numbers on them back a few months ago. Just search for threads I started it.s in there if you want to see.

a 383 typically does not put out much more peak power than a 350 or 355 with the same heads/cam.
it should have more power under the curve though.

Correct. It's a common misconception on here and other boards that the extra 28 or 33 cubic inches is going to yield a significant percentage increase in peak output, but it just isn't so with all other things being equal. The increase under the curve, however, is appreciable.

Nice numbers though. A 432rwhp car is no slouch.

Yes, but why use heads that work well with a 350sih CI motor on a stroker. Use some heads that can UTILIZE the extra cubic inces of displacement. 432 RWHP is good, but there is so much more potential for a stroked motor. Why go stroker if you can NOT significantly increase both peak horsepower and horsepower under the curve.

Ultimately, the track times will tell the tale of whether or not this is a great setup. Hopefully you get some great times

It’s not heads (Ai, LE, TEA, etc.) that are holding back these 420-430rwhp hydraulic LT1/4 stroker motors

Re: AI Trickflow Heads Dyno results!

So if peak numbers don't differ much...about how much more power across the board is a 383 worth at any given RPM...does that make sense...
