Aftrmarket Starter Install Question
Aftrmarket Starter Install Question
Those of you with aftermarket starters, was it a direct bolt up or do you have to cut and bend things. I am looking at either the CVR from Jegs or the Powermaster from Summit. As of now, I am leaning towards the Powermaster from what little I have heard about both of them. Anyways, please let me know if modifacations are in order to get these to fit. Thanks.

I just installed a Summit Racing Starter #SUM-820323. Its similar to the CVR #5323. In fact, it might be the same starter. As for the install, it was a direct bolt-in and I did not have to use the provided shims.

I have the CVR, and there was a minor interference with the edge of the oil pan. The corner of the mounting block on the CVR was beveled to clear the pan, but for some reason it wasn't quite enough. A quick hit with a grinder solved the problem. Other than that, it was a direct bolt-in... no shims, good ring gear engagement.
I put the CVR on my Dad's Chevrolet Express after the stock starter crapped out. It fit with slight trimming of the stock Torque Converter dust cover. Now it sounds like a race car when you start it.
Has been fine for over a year.
The CVR is about as good a quality piece as you can get for that money.

It is truley a work of art. Looking into the starter right now. Thanks for the reply.
. Did you guys have to drop the y-pipe to get this thing in? I've got an M6 BTW.
