AfterMkt Muffler: Do I want this?
AfterMkt Muffler: Do I want this?
I want an aftermarket muffler for my 97 Z28.
A guy emailed me about a Flowmaster 3 inch in and 3 inch out muffler with tailpipe.
1) would this work for my car (Z28 not V6)?
2) could I swap it w/ the stock muffler w/out havin to cut or weld anything?
3) could I keep my stock tips (no aftermkt tips!)
4) what's a good price to ask for it (shipped).
Thanks,
Jay

It would have to be welded on, your int pipe is 2.75in
You can keep your tips if you have a shop do it b/c the tips are offset and the pipes will have to be bent a bit
I got my flowmaster from my old z for free if i picked it up, but anywhere between 50-75 plus shipping i would guess.
also realize taht the stock tips are 2.5" dia. not 3" this could cause a bit of hassle.
sounds to me like you'd be better off just buying an actual cat back, used if you can find one, and just put the stock tips on. by the time you buy the muffler, have the shop install it, weld it, weld the tips, possibly bend the pipes...you'll be well into what it would cost for a used cat back
also realize that you really wont' gain much performance from just a flowmaster muffler and the sound may not be what you're looking for.
i'd hold off
