Aftermarket Heads
Aftermarket Heads
I'm curious what LT1s have for choices on aftermarket heads? You can't use any SBC heads because of the reverse coolant flow, so what is out there specially designed for LT1s. All I know for are AFRs.
Yes you can put in bigger valves, not quite a 2.08 though. My heads, for example, have 2.02/1.55 valves, and flow 274@.550, but the mid lift numbers are where they stand out. At .400 they're flowing low 250's.
The downside to the stock ported heads is that if you're building a large high revving motor, they won't be able to support it. Then, you'll need something aftermarket with larger runners.

Add to the above list:
Canfields, if you can find a used set, because they stopped making them.
The world's quickest LT1 (9.04@155, 1,125HP) used a set of highly modified Canfields. Before he went over 1,000HP, he was using a set of LPE CNC LT4 heads, with a little extra tweaking.
