Oh and thanks for all the info. It's quite appreciated.
There are no vents on the 93/94 unvented (F-Body) Optis. The vents were added in 1995, when they changed from the splined shaft drive to the cam dowel drive. There is an online article on a Corvette site explaining how to "vent" an unvented Opti. I switch my 94 to the 95-97 vented Opti, then took the high voltage out of the case with a direct fire ignition system. The main problem is ozone produced from the high votlage discharge. Ozone increases the corrosion rate, and can attack rubber and (some) plastic components. GM added the vent specifically to eliminate the ozone buildup.

So should I do an opti conversion? Or am I going to have some real problems with the sealed opti? This is a limited use vehical that will see maybe 1000 miles a year and 20 to 30 passes. I don't want to spend money unecesarily, but I also do not want to make a mistake. Plus I still don't understand how the stock PCM will handle over 7k RPM.

Thanks again.

Look for the Corvette article, on how to add a vent to a non-vented Opti. It was convenient for me to switch to the vented Opti, because I was building a new engine, with a cam that would accept the vented Opti and using the LT4 ED timing set, which does not have the splines for the driveshaft on the unvented Opti.

I'm pretty sure Rick Abare was using the stock Opti in his car.... at least in its earlier days, and turning 7,800rpm with it.
