i recently purchased these from jet hot. they are to fit a 95 z28. for those of you who may know do they offer a cat that bolts up to the y pipe or will i need to buy a new cat and have the plate that comes with the installation kit welded on.

I had the same problem. I actually spoke to a tech from Holley (they make Hooker products, etc.) about the flange that comes with the Hooker y-pipe. He said to buy some Permatex Hi-Temp Red sealant and let the y-pipe and flange sit for 24 hrs. before installation. I don't know about you but I just welded the y-pipe and flange together. I wasn't about to trust any sealant when it came to my exhaust setup. Now as far as cats go I just bought a 3 in. highflow Dynomax cat from Summit for $140. Any price higher than this for a cat is ridiculous (i.e. Random Tech). The cat had to banged and shaped so it would fit the oval shaped hole of the Hooker flange. I welded the cat to the flange also. I even welded my cat to the catback system. Hope this helps.

Most guys will tell you to go longtubes and I agree. But living in N.J. you gotta watch your ***. You'll lose a little bit of torque with lt's but gain more power on the top end. Shorties is the complete opposite; more torque less top end. It justs depends what you like better. IMO, I love my Hooker shorties. I gained .5 in the 1/4 with those headers, exhaust and gears. Anyway you look at it it's still better than stock manifolds. Here's another thing to keep in mind; where you might lose some power with shorties you can easily make up with a high stall tc and gears.
