After parked, overflow of reservior

I just did my coolant on my 94 Z and noticed some problems afterwards.

My temp gauge no longer works but is plugged in. (the WP one)

After driving for a while I start noticing a small scent of anti freeze, but nothing is leaking

After being parked, the car starts pissing from the reservoir onto the floor

I bled the system using the bleeder screws, and added as the engine warmed up. Currently Im using an open thermostat which I know isn't the best but I figured with the current 95* plus weather we've been having it wouldnt really hurt it. Im going to go to NAPA and get a new rad cap, and Im going to remove the battery so see if there is any holes there. But I was just wondering if it could possibly be any other issues?

Im also wondering if my fans are kicking on as I havent heard them. Will check shorty and report back here

It probly is your fans not working. Mine turn on after about 5 minutes at idle.

I suspect that you still have air pockets in there somewhere.

The sensor in the water pump is not the sensor for the gauge. The sensor for the gauge is on the driver's side head. The one in the water pump feeds the PCM.

Check the radiator cap. Sounds like its not holding the pressure on the system, allowing it to boil when you shut the engine off and there is no coolant circulation.

Put the thermostat back in. Get a new cap. Bleed the system carefully. Make sure the coolant temp sensor in the water pump is working. Fix the sensor in the head so your gauge works. Make sure there are no holes in the rubber hose from the radiator neck to the reservoir. If there are holes, the system will dump coolant into the reservoir as it heats up, then won't be able to pull the coolant back into the system when it cools down.

If the sensor in the water pump isn't working, that would explain why the fans aren't coming on.

Are you sure it's from the overflow reservoir? I had a small leak in the tube that runs underneath the battery that would leak coolant after I parked my car...this could be what is causing your problem.

Yeah its weird though the sensor was working fine the other day then outta no where its not even running anymore.

Its not like a small leak its like a puddle so Im going to follow you Injuneer and replace the rad cap and throw a stock tstat back in and see what happens

UPDATE: Found the sensor to the heads was unplugged which is slightly odd as I didnt go on that side of the car when I was doing my tune up. Some friends were working on the "easy" side to do the plugs and wires....Something fishy is up, or they took it off and forgot to plug it back in... I plugged it back in and the fans came on around the 3/4 mark (and the gauge works too!) and it stayed around between 1/2 and 3/4 marks. I still have to get a new t-stat and drain/refill the coolant. jerks

Also I noticed the coolant is really brown, which is what I would expect for a car that's been sitting with no coolant in it for over a year. My question is should I use radiator flush, or will this eat away at the freeze plugs as its an older motor with some milage (117k). I also was contemplating using water wetter as my friends Mustang had it and it ran nice and cool

My car overflowed after parked when I had those 2 smaller hoses near the radiator cap plugged into the wrong port. Just something to look at...

I haven't not run a thermostat ever and have not had problems.
Don't like your motor running at operating temperature or something?

You do it your way... I'll do it mine. Let the OP choose. No big deal.

the reasoning behind it was when i was running the turbo, i was running high boost, and the motor liked to run REALLY hot, even after bleeding the coolant, there were no bubbles, it just liked to run hot. partially because of a huge turbo right between the W/P and the radiator. the only way i could keep it at operating temp was to bypass it like I did. Ive just beent oo lazy to put one back in, and it still runs close to operating temp anyways
