After Installing a Cat, how long...

I just picked up a MAC catalytic converter, and I'm planning on installing it today. I was told by somebody over at Speed Inc that i should wait about 2 weeks or 40 starts before taking it in for emissions.

Is this true? I sure as hell hope not, I have to pass this month.

I dont know, but i thought it wouldnt take that long. When i had emissions test, i put back my old cat and it was like the week before....I know its not a new cat, but it still worked fine...

So in my eyes, i'd just go and try...i think that you should be ok and worst case senerio is that you fail and then show up in a few weeks and pass ya know?

Or you could start the car 40 times in the next week. Just keep turning it off and on

I think the reason for that was to go through heat cycles lol. I chuckled a bit when he told me that too though

Just do several WOT runs with it over the next few days, that should heat cycle it pretty quick

My friend has a 1987 Mercury Cougar that didn't pass emissions this last time. Turned out to be a clogged cat. Had the cat replaced and took it in the next day and it passed. So I don't think that it should really matter all that much. You should probably run it for a little while just to make sure it gets warmed up, but other than that you should be fine.
