After high speed run tranny shifts hard, change fluid?
My for starters car only has 53k miles, it's in great shape & last time i checked the tranny fluid it looked good.
I went for a a little high speed fun fun on the 428 last weekend, i was driving at 95mph for a little while, then i took it up over 120mph for a little bit.
I got on it hard leaving two toll booth's & one more time getting on the turnpike.
When i got back into the city & normal driving, i noticed 1st gear would shift really hard "like a shift kit" 2nd gear too but not as hard as 1st.
I let it sit for about a hour & it drove fine after that, but it had never done this before.
I was told the fluid got too hot, but my tranny should be fine & just to change the fluid.
Is this what i should do?
Also, i thought all Z28's that came with the performance axle "such as my car" came with a tranny cooler also.
If so why did my tranny heat up so much, thanks.

Thanks for the info, my dealer told me to do it at 60k but i figured now was about time.
I also saw a few 20 page posts on peoples tranny's going to sh$# after a fluid change or is that after a fluid flush?

I didnt do it a complete flush, i just dropped the pan at 40k miles and added a new 5 quarts. I'll probably do that again at 60K... but yeah ive heard **** goes wrong after a complete flush...
djgerry, what does your car run in the 1/4?

Usually this only happens after a tranny has been neglected and the fluid is not changed for a LONG period of time.
There is a tranny cooler of sorts in your radiator but an aftermarket cooler such as the B&M or a hayden is cheap insurance on any automatic equipped car, just plumb it in series with the stock cooler and it should be fine.
You should be ok with a fluid change but if you plan on doing alot of these sustained high speed shenanigans I would invest in a tranny cooler.

i can vouch for high temps KILLING a tranny.... see my sig
i recommend the hayden tranny cooler... the largest one... its made for a rv with up to a 30-38 k lb gross vehicle weight...
one of our board members recommended it to me... and it seems to me like he REALLY knows what hes talking about...

My sixty was 2.167, judging by my RWHP & the sixty, the car should run quicker.
Im getting D/R's soon, so i'll hit the track armed with those & my few intake mods in search of better times.
