AFR Eliminator series heads

I've been following the story with these heads since reading about them last year. Has anyone seen/read/had any experience with these yet? Specifically, what seems to be the better package for a street driven, internally stock LT1: 180cc head with stock LT1 manifold, or the 195cc head, which requires the LT4 manifold (which means you'll most likely be using the Edelbrock casting)? Cam selection will be an issue, especially for guys like us in emission-sniffing states.

From all the hype, I would have though the LT1 boys would've jumped all over these things by now. I know people seem to either love or hate AFR, but these new designs sound like the best thing since sliced bread for our cars.

I really like the fact that they say that you can now choose your CC size from 55-65cc for those of us who don't want to mill them way down for NA purposes. As soon as I graduate in Dec. I'll be looking to get some.

Because all AFR is is hype. Barley anyone even considers AFR these days because their old heads were garbage, and no one wants to spend $2600+ on a set of heads to be the first person to try them out.

What about getting the bare casting and having them ported, wouldn't that be better than getting the stock castings ported?

It depends on your application. There's always trickflow heads for that.

The new AFR 195's will work with a stock LT1 intake and they now have much bigger valves. They also have much larger exhaust ports which work with many differant types of 1 3/4" headers. The price for the 195's are around $900.00 ea. They are a quality product that have more than enough material in their casting to port any way you want.

Holy c@%p...you don't mince words, huh?

Pretty harsh statement, I'm sure there are hundreds of people who would disagree with you, but that's your opinion, and your free to express your thoughts.

But, you're not even close on price. Several vendors are selling 195cc Eliminator heads for $1500 (free shipping).

Anybody else have a more "fact-based" review of these heads?

AFR is one of the leading companies in aftermarket CNC heads. They got there because thier parts do what they advertise or come damn near close to them. Aside from the price tag of thier heads, you forgot to mention the LOOOOOONNNGGG backorders they have to get the parts since so many people "barely use them"

I was annoyed with the eliminators though. If only I had waited.

Do you think that the long wait and backorders will continue and/or increase with this new launch of products?

Show me some good results with AFR heads with AFR's portwork then. And show me a link to the heads for LT1's for $1400-1500. The cheaper street heads are $1800 shipped, while the better "race" heads are over $2500.

As long as I've ever known AFR always has back orders like 2-4 month waits... it's rediculous. I doubt that will change. Jegs I only got lucky becasue Jegs has an inventory of AFR heads...they order thiers in abundance.

OK...my bad. I was looking at the non-LT1 heads. But they are still not $2500 like you originally stated.

Waste of money inless your getting them ported.

You could spend $1800, and wait months, to get heads comparable to LE3's. Or you could buy LE3's and have them in a couple weeks. Very similar performance, and I think LE runs larger valves than those heads.

Inless your planning on buying them, and having them ported, their not worth it. Now if you want a dominating head set up, then I could see getting them, which out of the box are comparable with LE3 stuff, and having them ported, but really who wants to put more than $2500 in heads on a LT1? Its not worth it inless your building the most whicked NA car ...
