So i have been checking out heads on AFRs website, amazing flow numbers for everything they have. I am just wondering, they have a head on there thats raised intake for the LT1. Its a raised intake runner LT4 head for an LT1 or LT4. It says it works from 4500 rpm on up. If i were to leave the stock cam in, and put on these heads. What exactly would happen? Huge power loss below 4500? What cam would match that. I have a hard time seeing how a head will cause a rough idle or power loss with stock cam. I know how a cam affects the valvetrain, now i wanna know how the heads do it to. Thanks :] http://www.airflowresearch.com/

These heads are design for a carb intake manfold not for your stock manfold. the 80 cc would drop your compression ratio also. you would be better off with the 195 heads. I have the 190s with a 54cc. with a stock cam you dont notice them that much but it will give you the platform for all your next moves. Oh bye the way your times are right there for your alt. I ran 14.01 at 99 at plamdale when I was stock.

So the only heads that will even bolt up to my stock intake are 190s? or the 195s, also i was wondering....again if i had the largest head by them and everything... would i still lose all that low end?

Ya will loose very little bottom end if it is set up right. Ya will need about 270-300CFM to make really good power from a 356CI. It can be done with less flow, but the cam get's way large. The bigger the flow the smaller the cam needs to be for a given HP number.

Re: Afr

You still need enough cam to get the air in the runners moving. I know guys have had some OK results with ported heads on stock cammed f-bodies but the guys that tried ported or AFR heads on stock cammed b-bodies had BAD results as in little if any gain and a documented 2-3hp loss in one case. IMO going this big on the heads would result in the same thing even with the f-bodies slightly larger cam even though it has been shown to be able to support ported stock castings. The LT1 has decent heads in stock form, older smallblocks did not and the heads were a decent place to begin looking for power but with the LT1 the cam is more of a cork in the SYSTEM and therefore should be changed first or at the same time as the heads.

Re: Afr

So basically the heads wont make you lose any low end. SO why on ARFs website does it say 4500 RPM on up? I dont understand, if its the same power with a stock cam, theoretically it would be idle to 8000k or wherever they are supose to be maxed out.
