afr 220 vs. le3 heads...

im wondering how much of a difference in power would the afr 220s make more than the le3? and can the afr 220s still be ported and polished?
thanks

It depends on alot of things. One is are you going to get them ported right from AFR? If so, then the gains will be less than if you get the castings from AFR and have Lloyd or AI or someone else port them.

Lloyd got much better numbers then the Comp. port AFR210's when he ported the bare AFR210's for me.

would he still charge the same prices like his le3? would ai do any better or not really worth the extra money?

He charged me ~700ish to port my unported "as cast" AFR210's. I suplied the AFR's. Whether AI does a better job, who knows. To me, the dollar difference between them was too high.

I got a quote from LE on my bare AFR 210's and it was approx. $1300.00. Was your's complete heads or just the port work? I called and talked to AI just the other day and they said that that are getting set up for CNC work and they would do them for approx. $1000.00.

I think that 1300 from loyd would be a full port with valves spings retainers and locks, the AI port job will probably be only the actual porting for 1000.

If you need AFR 220s then you wouldn't even put an LE3 head in a comparison. One is a ported stock head and the other is for an all out no holds barred kind of motor.

It would be like comparing Rosanne (or some other homely woman) and Carmen Electra...They are both women, but thats where the similarities end.

The two heads have different cross sections, compressions (combustion chamber size), and a number of other things. You need to know your goal and budget before looking at heads. Figure out what you want and how much you can spend.

If you are in the market for either...do a search and/or look at other people's setup. There is a ton of info out there.

lol thanks for the wierd comparison, would ported afr 210's be good enough to handle a ptk turbo kit (in 1-2 years im plannin for one) and would the lt1 or lt4 intake work with it? how would i make it fit i heard something about some modification to it?
thanks

If you go with the AFR 210's or 220's, you will have to use the LT4 inake. The 220's would be really good for a turbo/blower motor, that's why I bought mine. INTMD8 here on the board made 847 RWHP with his turbo setup and I think that he has AFR 210's.

$700 for just the port work. No valvetrain at all.

One of the PTK customer's made 9XXrwhp with a T76 turbo and ported LT1 stock castings.
