Advice on head/cam setup

I'm thinking about doing the LE-1 setup for my Z and I've got a couple questions about what cam I actually need. I drive pretty conservatively, I usually don't pass 4000 rpm even when "getting on it." Actually, when I'm just driving around town, I typically shift from 3000-3300 rpm. I'm sure I'd be more inclined to drive faster here and there, but I sure wouldn't want to be pushing 5 and definitely not 6000 rpm. I drive the car pretty easy, once in a while messing with somebody, I'd just like to be able to take on more people and have the confidence to shut em down. I was just wondering whether the cam that comes with the LE-1 package is the one best suited for me or whether there's something else out there that would be more for me.

Technically Lloyd and Bret can make any cam you want, the LE1 cam can be slightly different for everybody. Reading you post I wouldn't think you would need much of a cam at all if you aren't going to use it. On a 355 you are going to have to get up to 6300 to get the full potential out of any H/C setup you choose.

Why do you have a Z28 if you're afraid to rev it to 5k? Don't do heads and cam unless you are prepared to go up to at least 6k rpms. If you're willing to do that, I'd say the LE1 would be good for you.

Yeah, if you don't drive it at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) and rev to the stock power peak at least once in some gear whenever you drive the car, you are probably wasting a bunch of $ to get a H/C package. My 95K mile C5 Vette and my 106K Imp get that treatment even with $3.03/gal premium.

Like a lot of things, if you've got it, use it, at least occasionally. It keeps one from feeling old, if not getting old.

OTOH, if you really want more grunt below 5K, Lloyd and Bret could probably fix you up (as much as they'd hate it) You certainly wouldn't see 400rwhp, but you might see a lot of rw torque.

Bolt on a supercharger or just spray the car for occassional power that you can beat a lot of ppl with.

You don't needs a Heads and Cam package. You just need a good Stock tune and some bolt ons. Headers, Exahust maybe some rockers. But if you don't even hit 5800Rpms your wasting your time even stock my car hit 6,000RPMS. I'd look else where for "passing" power.

Re: Advice on head/cam setup

Thanks guys, it's not that I'm afraid to take the car to those high rpm's...I'm sure it will handle it. It's just that there's never any reason for me to do it. I guess I'll just get my headers installed (one of these days) and be happy with that. The improved sound will at least keep my happy. I'll just reappropriate the money elsewhere. Again, thanks!
