Re: Advice

I understand the traction and the stall at the same time but as far as the gears I only have 2:73's. If I go with headers and I gain 2 mph what would that drop a 9 1/8 time down too? Just wondering.

No way to tell for sure. It really all depends on how the track is prepped, what tires you are on, etc etc etc. I'd say if you run a 9 flat, then add headers you could probably expect an 8.80.

After learning that you have 2.73's I would really consider getting some 3.42's and having them installed. It would be a tough choice for me choosing between those and headers. Whichever one you can do for cheaper is what I'd do.

Re: Advice

It's there right now

I found a guy locally that's only charging $45 for a wash, visual inspection and magnaflux. I felt like it was a pretty good deal. He's supposed to be done looking at it today.

Re: Advice

since it was an auto i had to computer programmed to turn the fan on a 160 and change the shift point since mainly I'm a bracket racer. Believe it or not but pcm programming on my car stock droped it 2 tenths which a believe was a really good by considering i have unlimited programming.

Re: Advice

I don't know why your mph is so low. I would look into a tune up first.

Do a search on Pacesetters. You get what you pay for.

Re: Advice

Where do you bracket race? I noticed it said Houston on your profile. I also bracket race in Houston. HRP, Sealy, Angleton, HMP on occasion. If it were me, I'd go real slicks or ET streets for consistency. I carry mine in the back and bolt 'em on at the track with a cordless impact wrench. For bracket racing, everything comes backwards; traction is most important, then power. And if you're worried about your 10 bolt, I'm still on my original 10 bolt with 3.73's, and the car's been raced 40 weekends a year for 2 years that I know of. The guy that owned it before me also raced it. Just an example, not a guarantee.

Re: Advice

Thanks for the advice. I dunno why my mph is low. In fact i didn't even think it was low. I figured 78 in a 1/8 was average for a 9 flat car

Re: Advice

Dont feel too bad. I ran 8.76 in the 1/8 and my trap speed was 78.79mph!!!!!!!! That is really low. I did however at the time have 2.73 gears and no tune. I was gettin some pretty good 60ft's with my best being 1.9. I now have 3.73's and I am hoping to bump it up to almost 82mph if thats possible.

Re: Advice

my 2:73's must be the reason for the low trap speed

Re: Advice

It isn't low for a 9 flat car. I just figured it was a couple low with the mods you have. Only a couple I know but just figured it was low. I have had friends pick up mph with gears or smaller tires so that might help you too.

Re: Advice

Well I gained .6 secs from the lm exhuast and the programming and the 160 thermostat. Didn't gain anything really from the shift kit bt it helped on the shift points from the computer programming. And only gained .2 from the slp cai. Droped it down from 9.7 to 8.8-9.1. My mph though from when it was stock was like 75 and I have only gained about 3-4 mph since then.

Re: Advice

Well, that isn't a bad increase from stock. Get the headers and add to the setup later. But, if you can't afford a nice exhaust setup, wait. I have learned that when you skimp on something, you pay for it later.
