Advice

Ok I have a 95z28 thats pretty much stock. Only mods are lm, computer programming, shift kit, 160 thermo and slp cai. It runs about 8.8's to 9.1's in the 1/8 miles. I'm trying to get that number down as most people on here are doing but I only have the money for one of the following mods so i need to know which way would be better. I can get headers, a converter, gears or drag radials. Which one would push my time down the most and what would i run? Thanks

Re: Advice

i would say DR's. You are not using all the potential you have right now due to traction. Any more mods (headers, gears. converter) it would probably hurt your e.t. but help trap speed. So, you are running 8.8 sec 1/8 mile on street tires? That is pretty good for mostly stock. Have you thought about et streets? Those are the best track mod i ever did. DR's don't hold a candle to those bad boys. They are not very streetable especially when wet but for the track, they are awesome.

Re: Advice

My advice would be to get headers for your car. Open up the exhaust more and a noticable amount of torque and Hp. I wouldnt get DR's just yet but thats just my opinion.

Re: Advice

I would also suggest headers. They are always the best bang for the buck. The long tubes are the best as well.

Re: Advice

I like both opinions and this is the same debate i am having myself so anyone elses input would be great. I'm consider ets but i want to make sure my stock rear end will hold up.

Re: Advice

Headers. Get the motor breathing first. Often, tires are not problem. It is the suspension. I have seen several cars 60' 1.8 on stock tires. Get the car running with bolt ons and go from there.

Re: Advice

If you are running very close on money, I would stay away from et streets or any kind of drag radial. Granted, those would probably help you out the most, but how long your rear would hold up.....who knows, prolly not that long, but then again, it might stay together forever My suggestion is that if you arent prepared to drop in a new 12 bolt or something, to go with headers, not only will it help you out, but itll sounds WAY better!

Re: Advice

i think i would have to say headers also. if you go with a converter or gears you will definitely need dr's or ET streets or something. i had absolutely no traction problems before my converter, could barely squeek a tire off the line with all that traction sh*t they put down, i put in the converter and headers and i was sidways through the first 1/8th mile even if i babied it, if i floor it at any less than 20 mph my tires go up in smoke and i am not even making that much power, that was before my cam so now traction is just a word i read about, i forgot what it means!!!

Re: Advice

Well my only problem is my 60 is slow and i lose traction in the shift from 2nd to 3rd pretty bad. But headers seams to be what everyone says is best so I think i'm gonna go that route. What do you think pacesetter lts would knock my time down to from my current 9 flat.

Re: Advice

Well, higher stall converter and better traction are two things that really need to happen at the same time. So unless you have the money for both, cross them off.

Gears- if you have 3.23's I'd leave them.

So that leaves headers. I bought some used SLP headers and have been happy with them. The SLP's with a test pipe picked up a little over 2 mph in the 1/8 when all I had was an intake and flowmaster catback.
