Advanced OBDII Question

Does anyone know what protocol a '95 Z28 uses? PWM, VPW, or ISO?

What I'm getting at - Do I need anything besides a cable and software? (PWM and VPW require a hardware interface)

Cable I intend to get:

I've found several software packages including everything from 'freescan'

First of all, your 95 is OBDI.
The connector is OBDII. Contact Andrew @ akmcables.com and he'll hook you up with a cheap cable.

96+ GM cars use VPW.

Not to argue with you, because I don't know anything beyond what I've researched today... but according to OBDII.COM a '95 Camaro/Firebird is one of very few '95 vehicles that is fully compliant.

http://www.obdii.com/connector.html

Engine Family | Manufacturer | Model(s) | Fully Compliant?
S1G3.8V8G1EK | GM | Camaro, Firebird | Yes

What you say does make sense, because I went today to AdvanceAuto and they plugged in an OBDII tester and it kept giving an error that it could not connect. So - are you 100% certain about this?

Those are California models only. Although their programming is very similar to a 96's programming, the PCM is still OBDI.
Am I sure? Well, this is what I do for a living...

Not even the CA dual cat A4 models are OBD-II. That "list" has a "typo" in it. If you look carefully at the number, it is for the 3.8L V6, which they incorrectly typed as 3.8V8

To satsify yourself, look at the emissions label on your radiator cover:

Here is the one from Rob/Shoebox's 1995 Z28.
