Advanced Engine Building Questions
Just a few oppinion type or "what ya got" type ?'s
Im about to put my 355 together and just wonderd what kinda end gaps your running on your rings?
Also, how many guys with coated bearings out there?
And lastly, what seems to be the popular valvespring right now for 600+ lift hyd roller cams? Im tryin to find something with about 120# on the seat, and 330-340# open. the comp 930 is close, but im afraid with 383# at .650 that might be a lil much and start collapsing the lifter. thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Re: Advanced Engine Building Questions
Ring end gap will be partially dependent on if you're spraying or not, no?
I'm running Kings Alecular Si bearings on the cam, and either the rods or main, I forget. I got them for all 3, but one had slight clearance difference, so the builder went and got some Clevites to replace them with. :/
How much lift do you plan on running with your cam?

Re: Advanced Engine Building Questions
Whenever I built my engine I went with the .004" per inch of bore. So if you have a 355 that mean you have a 4.030 bore so about .21 should do it. I used plasma moly speed pro rings and I dod not have to file fit them. I also used coated bearings. I again used Speed Pro coated bearings and they clearanced just fine. So get that Camaro hauling again and smoke those puss-stangs.
Re: Advanced Engine Building Questions
thanks for the input Haynes. I was figuring about .004 per inch, just wanted to see what you guys had done. Ive been talking with calico here in NC, and they seem to have a good product. Come highly reccomended by some Bucsh/Cup engine builders I know.
Dave, i am planning on spraying the motor and the lift is .608/.613

Re: Advanced Engine Building Questions
Matt,
1st I've used Calico Bearings before and they are great stuff. Protect the crank if something happens with the oil system so it's just a little extra layer of protection.
2nd Basically whoever you like using for rings follow their instructions for the application. Open the 2nds up more than the tops is a common thing now too. I've also seen some results where the end gaps on the top have been opened up and people find HP there too.
3rd With the right lifters on a Hyd Roller setup, like a Comp Pro Mag (commonly called a Comp R here) you can run a bunch more pressure over the nose and seated than that. It's always better to have more pressure than to have less.
