Adjusting valves weird question

Ok, i know to put either #1 or #6 piston at top dead center i need to turn the crank until the little arrow is pointing to 12 oclock.. The only problem here is that my crank hub doesnt have one! There is a single white dot on the crank pulley... and it seems like the hub is actually in the shape of an arrow. Is that what i need to line up? It is distinctly in the shape of an arrow??

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

Just use the EOIC rule. Do the Intake when the Exhaust just opens and do the Exhaust when the intake just closes for each cylinder.

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

Your crank pulley should look like the one in this diagram (96-97). Note how one of the removal holes is shaped like an arrow. The hub has an identifying mark on it that may be as simple as a line. You can also tell where the mark should be by looking at the front of the assembly. The spokes are not symmetrical. The center between the two spokes that are wider apart is where the arrow should be.

Im not getting what you are saying.. There is a very faint line that looks to have been scratched in on the pulley. Is that what you are talking about? I have just now set that at 12 oclock and i am following your graph and it is not matching up well i dont think either #6 or 1 are at tdc.. Any help?

Is it a stock pulley? Did you look at my diagram of the stock pulley? The arrow is plain as day to me. You did not follow my explanation of the arrow being between the two widest spokes? It's foolproof.

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

sorry, yeah i figured it out.. lol. Ok so now I have the valves adjusted to 1/16th past 0 lash they are promag's with comp r lifters.. The car seems to be running better but it has died on me 2 times on startup (this happened a couple of times before adjustment) and i just got a code P0506: The pcm has determined that the engine rpm is lower than expected for the current engine operating conditions. Any thoughts?

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

You could always double check it or use another method like slopokrodrigez suggested. It is method #3 on my site.

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

If you have a known TPS problem, you need to correct it. BTW, your sig says you have no mods. The code could have occurred when you were having intermittent idle problems. Clear it and see if it comes back.

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

Man ive had this tps problem ever since i put my AS&m 54mm tb on i got a new tps sensor, slotted it, adjusted it all over the place and it still gives me a code sometimes if i adjust it way off the code pops right up when i get on it and other times it takes a few days. Is there any known problem with the as&m and tps?

Re: Adjusting valves weird question

what i had to do with my holley t/b was measure the resistance of the TPS on my stock t/b at closed and WOT, then wallow(sp?) out the mounting screw holes on the TPS until i could get those same resistance readings with it mounted on the holley t/b
