Adjusting roller rockers trick/tip. Does this work?

sorry title should stay "trick/tip". I was out setting my roller rockers. I was bringing each cylinder to TDC. I notice some of the rockers were easy to figure out where 0 lash was and some werent. I'd spin the push rod but sometimes i wasnt sure if it classified as enough tension or not..
But i noticed after doing a few sets that the Nuts that you bring down onto the stud (the nut in the center of the bolt), would all have 2-3 threads showing above the nut. If its showing 2-3 threads above on all nuts then that means it was done correctly right?.

On cylinder 7 i could not figure out 0 lash.. and all the others had 2-3 threads showing on the nuts..
Also on number 7 i could tell where there was play inbetween the pushrod and the rocker but when i'd bring it down the play would go away.. but it didnt feel like there was any tension going on the pushrods really.. well kinda but it was hard to tell..
Anyways does this all sound right?
It makes sense doesnt it?

Sometimes it can be very hard to tell when zero lash is reached. However, after a doing it enough you get a feel for it. I always sey my rockers by finding zero lash and then adding 1/4 turn. When I'm done I look to make sure all the rockers are even and check how far the nuts/allen screws are on the stud. The amount of thread showing should only be used as a check though. You may be having trouble finding zero lash because your lifters are not pumped up, so they are very easy to compress. Just take your time and work slowly.
