Is an adjustable LCA necessary?

When does an adjustable LCA become necessary? Id be running tires that will fit with no problem.

i think the main purpose for the adjustables is for lowered vehicles. i also heard before that with HIGH powered vehicles sometimes by the end of the 1/4 mile the tires will expand enough to rub the fenders. i guess you could just adjust them by moving the axle back 1/2 inch or so. i really don't see a need for them though.

Adjustable control arms are simply for the drag racer looking for the maximum range of options with their setup. The joe average drag racer won't need them and the regular type will do. Besides, I believe the only adjustable kind you'll find will be the weaker tubular type. Better to go with the stronger boxed type.

"Weaker" tubular???? The worlds quickest 4th Gen LT1 used tubular LCA's and 1,125HP to push a 3,900# convertible to 9.04 @ 155mph. Why would you need a heavier box-section? .

The tubulars are plenty strong but I still recommend the boxed. The weight difference is about 4 lbs between a single tubular/boxed control arms. I'm also basing this on the BMR shipping weight chart I have which generally includes the weight of the shipping box so it's probably less than 4 lbs each. This weight difference is negligible IMHO.

Of course anything is stronger than stock.

You haven't convinced me... I got rid of some ridiculously heavy "Just Suspension" box-section LCA's for a set of Spohn tubulars. I work too hard to pull weight off the car to just dump a few pounds of unnecessary unsprung weight back on.

the weight difference between the 2 is 8lbs, not 4.

I meant 4 lbs per single control arm. Thusly 8 lbs total.

IMO, boxed LCA's are totally unecessary. Hell, BMR sells both, and if you look in their FAQ section, says the same thing.

I have tubular LCA's, and they are very beefy as-is. Boxed is just wasteful weight.

And as Fred said, Baxter ran low 9's on tubular LCA's, so that kinda kills off the idea that boxed are needed.
