Adjustable Guideplates are pain with heads on car

Its a real pain to line up adjustable guide plates right so the rockers hit dead center on the valve stem with the heads on the car. The back cylinders SUCK. On the other side of things, their easy on the front cylinders.

I never thought they could be that miserable. It really sucks once their already loctited and you need to break em loose the next day to adjust them so their just right.

Eww and trying to measure installed height with a set of digital calipers is also never fun in a cramped engine bay.

How'd you get the adjustable guide plates lined up right? I thought this would be the easiest way:

New Studs in, New pushrods in, valve springs installed, slip the rockers on, shift them till they are centered over the valve stem, gently lift them off, then hold the guide plate from moving while you snug the stud down.

Your setup looks fairly common why are you using adjustables?

Re: Adjustable Guideplates are pain with heads on car

Once I'm off of my college budget, I will be pulling the engine, getting AFR or LE heads/intake, stripping it to the block and having a splayed 4 bolt all forged really low compression stroker motor made for it. Im just trying to use as many parts now that I will be able to reuse later. Since im going to use a pro charger on it with high boost, im trying not to cut corners. So modding it now is going slow as im trying to get lots of stuff that will strenthin things, not so much make it faster. I think adjustable guideplates would be a breeze with the motor out

It sucks real bad that I dont have the money now. I bought the car totalled with the engine and tranny out of it. If I had the money then ... But now I gotta yank it all out and back in for a 2nd time when im ready to do it I guess ... Fun Fun ... I think an LT1 F-body is most likely one of the hardest things I have ever seen to work on. 2nd to maybe a V8 Aurura.
