Adding up new engine costs (help)

Im getting an estimation on an engine rebuild for when I do it which it seems not so far away at this point,so this will be my question thread. I plan on a 383. Im thinking of just buying the eagle rotateing assembly kit.

1.Will a normal cam/lifter kit work on an lt1 or does it have to be specified for the lt1. I notice summit has
2.Same question for the crank, I will be getting a 3.75 crank.
3.Piston Rods/pistons are just normal correct, just make sure there the right bore size?
4.I am looking at summit and I see multiple different types of roller cams/lifter sets which one is the best for power, (Hydraulic roller tappet, Mechanical roller tappet, Hydraulic roller follower)them are the roller's listed on summit not sure if there are more? Also there is a "computer compatible" option does the cam have to be computer compatible since this will be fuel injection?

Ill add to this thread later, but I think them are my questions for now.
Thank you

Im lookin at VRE but its over 3 grand for a set like mine, but instead of being forged its cast. So I can only imagin how much the forged would cost.
Just looked at the sportsman option, doing some math, are srp pistons good for about a 200 shot? Ill be adding nitrous sometime later on.
Still fairly expensive I was lookin at only a little over 3k or so for rotateing assembly forged, cam and lifters, roller rockers, chromoly push rods.

Why are you rebuilding? What will the motor be used for?

Will a normal cam/lifter kit work on an lt1 or does it have to be specified for the lt1.

The cam core is slightly different for an LT1 than for a Gen I (the nose is different).

Same question for the crank, I will be getting a 3.75 crank.

You need a crank for a 1-piece rear main seal block.

Piston Rods/pistons are just normal correct, just make sure there the right bore size?

The pistons are the same as for any SBC with 23 degree heads.

I am looking at summit and I see multiple different types of roller cams/lifter sets which one is the best for power, (Hydraulic roller tappet, Mechanical roller tappet, Hydraulic roller follower)them are the roller's listed on summit not sure if there are more? Also there is a "computer compatible" option does the cam have to be computer compatible since this will be fuel injection?

You car has an OE hydraulic roller cam. Given the nature of your questions, suffice it to say that this what you want. If your existing lifters are in good condition without very high mileage, just re-use them. "Computer compatible" is used to denote cams that will work w/o reprogramming the stock "computer" (the PCM that controls your ignition and fuel injectors, among other functions).

Ill add to this thread later, but I think them are my questions for now.

You seem pretty new at this. I strongly suggest you enlist the help of a knowledgable friend or shop. Read http://www.automotiverebuilder.com/ar/ar99928.htm and get this book: How to Rebuild Small-Block Chevy Lt1/Lt4 Engines by Mike Mavrigian.

Thank you

You're welcome and good luck.

cost varies alot depending on your goals... to build a reliable motor for a 200 shot I would only use forged parts... I had my complete short block bult for me by my machinist for a grand total of $3800. He bought the parts... There are a ton of other things to consider... heads, cam, lifter, pushrods, rockers, intake, injectors, valve covers, gaskets, oil pan, flywheel, balancer, timing chain and cover... ect... money depends on your goals. If you want a stockish rebuild you can do it for fairly cheap.

I built a 355 solid roller to take a 200 shot and I am currently at the $12k+ mark.

Thank you, I have quite a few friends who will be helping me, no way am I doing this by myself. I can't reuse no parts, the car has 135k on it. I want the car for alot of weekend racing, and some daily driving.
The plan is fully forged internals, full roller, I know I will need all the extras to go with it like you mentioned, I plan to do the heads later depending on the money situation.
