Accessory Bracket Question!

Has anyone ever relocated the alternator to where the A/C Compressor sits? I have deleted my A/C Compressor with the pulley that GM sells, but I would like to relocate the Alternator to the A/C Compressor position. How do i do it and what do i do about the direction that the Power Steering pump is turning?

ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Why are you trying to do that?

Yes, but with the ones currently out, you have to ditch the Power steering.

One of the guys one this board is trying to design one that keeps the power steering though.

You might try checking with him periodically.

He're a link to an earlier post.

You can run tall (undimpled) valve covers and well as free up some useable space under the hood (better plug/wire clearance)

Actually i was interested in being able to remove my valve covers with more ease, so that i can adjust my rockers with more ease. I dont like having to constantly move the alternator to do so. Any one else?

I've relocated the alt to the a/c spot and had some noticed gains. Car reved alot quicker with having alot shorter belt. Best thing was plug access was great. Change'em in 5 minutes.

I need the alt pully part number quick

I have a 1993 Z28 that I am going to use a track car and need to delete the power steering and a/c compressor. I don't care where the Alternator is located, just getting rid of the other tow components.I removed these components but had to put them back on because of the belt will not go from the harmonic pully to the alternator an the lower tensioner pully will not move the belt over with out rubbing on top of itself.

Where did you get the pully to re-route the belt from the harmonic balancer to the alternator? This has got to be a GM part?

Any help would be appreciated and I am following the post on this site were a guy is trying to fabricate a new bracket.

That's no problem, both madman

and steve10

already make relocation brackets, if you dont mind dumping the power steering. They get rid of the complete pass side accessory bracket along with the tensioner pulley. 1 short belt direct from crank pulley to alt pulley.

I'm running madman's bracket. A bid more expensive - but it was worth it to drive across town and pick it up.
