Accell DFI - computer management?

Recently flipping through GMHTP magazine, i notice an advertisement for "Accell DFI". Seems to be an endless array of diagnostic software for LT1s, V8's, 5.0s, I think. Besides diagnostics, it allows calibration or fuel and tons of other stuff. I also remember seeing Nitrous stages, so you can easily watch your nitrous and make sure everything is good.

Problem being that you need a Laptop or some other type of monitor read out, this wouldn't be bad. It may be kinda like Fast and Furious, but hey, i wouldn't mind racing with a computer in my lap

check out the website here, Accell DFI

I'd love to have it too.. but it's about a cool $2.5k for just the minimum setup

Not sure what you are thinking, but this is an aftermarket engine management system that replaces most of the the functions of the existing PCM. If you are thinking of this route, the unit I am most impressed with (besides the megabuck units like the Haltech) is the Electromotive TEC3.

I always see Accel DFI gen6/7's for the LT1 for sale on ebay. I got my gen6 for a steal on ebay with everything from the sensors to the ECM/brain. The only pisser is that most of the time it doesn't come with the software and interface cable which is $200 through summit/jegs.

The DFI gen6 is not for the novice like me. It's tough getting used to, but everything in it makes complete sense. It's very simple to use and configure. The gen6 is a little archaic, but it's very efficient. It all comes down to two things, the ignition map and the base fuel map. The ignition map is self-explanitory considering the LT1; it just controls the degrees ignition is advanced based off engine RPM vs engine load. The base fuel map is the killer, but it all comes down to the result pulse width for a given engine RPM vs engine LOAD(map). To get that result pulse width there are other variables entered into the equation that change the enrichment in percentages such as, water temp, o2 readings, manifold air temp, initial startup, etc. For an outline of most of the screens in the gen6 configuration utility, CALMAP, check out: http://numb.voxel.net/calmap/
