AC question?

When the air conditioning is used does it use the waterpump? Does the AC cause the waterpump to work more or harder?

They have nothing to do with each other at all. They are two completly different systems. Why?

well, ive posted about this problem ive been having with a constant whistling when the engine gets hot...it seems to come after the engine has been running. At first i thought it was the crankshaft balancer but was told it couldnt be because it would make a different noise. Then i was told it was the waterpump going out. But today when i ran the AC, the noise got louder. When stopped i barely hear the whistle, but once i turned on the AC it got alot louder. So, i was thinking if the AC runs off the waterpump then the waterpump is my problem...now im back at step one.

How's your drive belt? Try using some belt dressing spray, if the noise changes or stops, it's the belt.

Another thought, what about your altenator?

Where does the noise sound like it's coming from?

its not the alternator. It is coming from underneath the car for sure. You can barely hear the sound from the top of the engine, but below it its very noticeable. Its not the belt because i removed the belt and the sound was still there. what drives the waterpump? If the engine is working harder when the AC is on, the sound from the waterpump could jump louder since it is also moving at a faster rate? the AC is making the waterpump work at a more rapid rate, thus making the loud louder?

The water pump is mechanically driven off of a gear off the timing chain and doesnt connect to your belt at all. The only things driven off your serpentine belt are: AC, Air pump, Alternator, Power steering pump, and tensioner. If its making the noise louder when you turn on your AC I would think it would be your AC compressor but ive never heard one whistle personally.

Then what could be causing the noise when the AC is off? The noise in there when the AC is off, but once the AC is turned on the noise gets alot louder. Im trying to pinpoint the source or the noise, whatever it might be. So far i know its not the belt, because the noise is present without the belts on the car, and i know when the AC is turned on it causes the noise to get louder. The sound is also present when the engine is warm. What could it be!! its driving me nuts

Ok when you have the AC off do you still have the setting to blow air in the car? If you do try turning it in the off position and if it stops the noise then its your blower motor. If thats not it then maybe you have a squeek coming from both the water pump and compressor so when you turn the AC on it gets louder.
