AC on during defrost???

I just found out that if I have the defroster selected and the temp turned to cool the AC turn on and cycles on and off. I found this out tonight after installing my new airfoil, and checking for air intake leaks, I kept hearing the AC cycle on and off.

I guess the main question is does it always do that and does it come on at WOT or over certain RPM's? because the defroster was on when i was last at the track, actually it is(was after tonight) always set to defrost.
Could the AC have been on while I was running down the track

Normally the compressor clutch is disengaged during WOT. It is normal for it to be on in the defrost mode to help dry the air going to the windshield.

So you’re under the impression that it wasn't on while I was going down the track? That's good to hear, because I am always shooting for a best time and I would have been pissed if I were sabotaging myself

I was told that the reason the compressor kicks on during defrost is to remove humidity from the vehicle and equalize it. Mine does it, as well as my Cherokee.

another reason the compressor cycles on and off is so it doesnt ceize up during the winter time when your obviously not using the A/C.

the ACcomes on when you have the defrost on in order to "dry" the air and to keep the windows from fogging up.
Every car I have owned does this.

Except my old chevette (no laughs please) which of course had no AC. or power or style or anything for tham matter.
