Are AC delco Dbbl Platinum Plugs worth the money???

I just went and spent $5.99 a plug for these double platinum plugs from AC-Delco. Are they good plugs for stock aplications? For $5.99 a plug I thought thier would be a little guy that pop's out of the box and installes it for you. I looked, no little guy, Bummer. So these plug must be something special.

They should be an OK plug to use. But heck, even the stock platinum plug are like $4.50 - $5.00 each.

The double platinums are stock 96+ they should outlast the stock 95down plugs. They are fine if you want a long lasting plug for a mild NA application. Platinum is totally unacceptable for boost or juice though, many of those serious about performance will even discourage their use in an NA motor. So just realize that the only advantage platinum has over a plain $1.50 plug is longevity.

I wouldn't pay $6.00 each for a set of plug's unless I had a AA fuel dragster and that's the only thing that would fit it and the next run was for the national championship and I didn't have any plugs.

I'm uncomfortable putting anything in my cylinders that can detatch itself and bounce around. I run champions and change them once a year since my junk only is driven on the weekends.

You will get some longevity out of them, that is about it. You wont experience a huge power gain. "Double-platinum" sounds like a really good marketing slogan to me.

Doble platinum refers to a platinum piece on both sides of the plug gap instead of just one, it was done for a smoother idle and to help achieve the the 100K tuneup marketting claims.

The only good thing about double Platinum is they last longer. As much of a PITA to change plugs, they are worht it IMO.

Re: Are AC delco Dbbl Platinum Plugs worth the money???

My '92 LT1 Corvette came from the factory with AC double-platinum plugs.
And, six out of eight of them had the platinum pucks fall off -- this was a common problem at the time.

Unless AC made a change to keep the platinium pucks from falling off, they couldn't pay me to take them -- I run Autolite double-platinum plugs with no problems in my AFR heads.

In a word, no.

In many words, buy something else, they are junk as other have explained. If you dont want the hassle of pulling copper plugs get some Autolite 106's in a double platinum. They are better made and after pulling my set 35,000 miles later they were all still good. If you dont mind changing them more often get some NGK TR55's or regular Autolites.
