ABS Module Bleeding Procedure (after engine rebuild)

After finishing my engine rebuild I need to bleed the ABS Module. Right now the pedal goes to the floor. I tried several times to bleed the module but everytime I built some pressure it would just go to the floor again in a couple of minutes?? Is there any special procedure for doing this?? Also my ABS Inop light is on permanent right now and my service manual says that that code has to be cleared before bleeding. Any and all help is much appreciated.

You may need to bleed the complete brake system. Try bleeding the ABS module, bleed all the brake lines starting from the furthest, then re-bleed the ABS system. See if this works.

When bleeding the brakes, should I have the car running, or just the key on, or none of the above?? Also, do I have to get rid of the ABS light first????

Do not run your car while bleeding the brakes, it'll put too much pressure in the system. You want to kinda ease out the air, not churn it up. Make sure you open the bleed screw first, then push down the brake pedal, close up the bleed screw and let off the brake. You don't want any pressure in the system when opening the bleed screw. I have never heard of needing to remove the ABS light. Do you have a bad ABS sensor or something? I'm not sure why the light would be on in the first place. The ABS light just informs you that the ABS system has been disengaged for some reason. It shouldn't have an effect on brake bleeding, but I could be wrong.

I only ask about the ABS light because my GM Service Manual says that the light must be off in order to bleed the brakes, howver, sometimes there are ways around these things and I was wondering if anyone knew any or not.

if the ABS lite is on the enable relay has ben triped and the system is not reponding and will not pump. you need to clear the codes IE unhook the battery. after you do this turn the key on but do not start it. have smeone open the bleeder and TEHN push the pedle down. when it;s all the way down have them close teh bleeder, then you can let up on the peddle. repeat this untill you have all the air out
