Smile abs light, security light, HELP

Hey everybody,

I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 94 z28 last week and I am very happy with my purchase. I ve got some quick questions about some of the problems I'm having with the car. First of all the ABS inop light is on. From reading some of the posts, apparently this is a common problem. I did notice that the 3rd brake light on my stock spoiler was out, could that be the culprit? My next question is the security light is on. The guy I got the car from said it had been on since he took of the door panel one time to try and fix the window. How could I make that light go off. Also my last question deals with the cooling fans. They seem to not want to come on at all. However when I turn the a/c on only one of the fans comes on. Is the other likely burnt out or maybe just a short. Well those are the questions for now. I'm sure I will come up with more later. Thanks for the help!

the abs light could be a problem with the abs system, or it could be as simple as one of the sensors on one of the wheels got disturbed. My freind is currently having this issue with his 98 cutlass. One thing is for sure, the light definatly means the abs doesnt work. I do not think the rear light has anything to do with the abs light being on. the security light being on all the time, you probably should get a new key cut with your VIN Number at a GM dealer. If the light remains on after that, do a few searchs on the board for how to disable the security light by adding a resistor. I think the guy who sold you the car made up the part about the light coming on after he took the door apart. The security light has nothing to do with the door.

For the cooling fans, i'm not sure how 94s worked, if they had a primary and secondary fan or if they were supposed to come on in pairs. Someone else will have to help you with that one.

The spoiler light can definitely cause the ABS INOP. Get the lights working and the dash light should go away. The ABS circuitry passes through the spoiler lamps and needs this continuity/resistance to operate correctly. (it can also affect operation of the cruise control)

Security light is on all the time, but you are able to drive the car with no problem? That usually indicates there was a malfunction by the PassKey system in reading the key pellet after the car had already been started. If the situation is not corrected, you still should be able to drive your car, but you will have no PassKey protection. It could be the key pellet or the key cylinder or it's wiring. There is a small 2 wire connector with wires (wht/blk and ppl/wht) coming from the steering column under the dash. That connection might be suspect.

Since you have a 1994, you may have a 2 relay fan system. What that means is you have primary and secondary fans. Only the primary comes on first around 226º. The secondary comes on if temp reaches about 235º. You can read more about the cooling system here, if you want.

Welcome, BTW.
