ABS light Question
ABS light Question
Hey, I have a 95 Z28, A4. The ABS light comes on during the first 10 mins of driving the car but only sometimes and only when I apply the brakes. Its not like it runs through its test and then comes on, it seems to wait for me to put on the brakes, and then I get brake fade when the light does come on. I have replaced the rotors and pads on all 4 corners and that seemed to help the problem for a while but then about a week or 2 later the light started coming back on. The thing I was wondering was if the tire size is incorrect on the car. The stupid place that I bought the car from put the wrong size 16's on the car to safety it, they're 225/60/16's like off a lumina or Bonneville. Would that cause the problem? If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Thanks in advance guys.

Do a search on ABS INOP. You will find all sorts of remedies. First try checking the bulbs in the third brake light.
I just re-read your post and you are getting "pedal fade"?!?!? That is bad. Look for leaks! Both vacuum and fluid. I do not think I would drive this car until you find the trouble.

Scan it and then reset it. If the light returns. Scan it again. The code is everything. Tells you where to go from here.
If you don't have a scanner Autozone may be able to scan not sure. Call them. The dealer will charge you about $60.00. to scan. See if a local garage can scan it and save you money. The Snap-on scanners are readily available and can do the job and most garages have them.
When you have the code you need to follow the procedure in the shop manual. ie my abs inop light code read bad left front brake motor. Went through the procedure and it turned out to be a bad brake control module. Point is with the code and procedure I got what I needed and did not get something I didn't need.

Thanks for the info
As far as the brake fade goes, it only occurs when the light comes on brakes work fine afterwards.
Whats a fair price to pay on a used scanner? I was checking out the Snap On Catalog $2265 us, and checking out E-bay for around $400-500 used. It is a must have tool these days, I refuse to pay some one that kind of coin to plug it into a computer....
Anyone know what to look or check for? I see the cartridges are expandable but pricey.
Thanks guys

You could get a cable and download FreeScan and then you can see any codes that the car is throwing. You can also monitor things going on. If you want to get a liitle more info you can use DataMaster as a data logging program. You can find the links to the cable and all of this stuff on the LT1_edit web site.
Hope this helps.
