Lightbulb ? about roller rockers

I was looking to maybe buy some rockers. I have a basicly stock car besides the cai and cat-back exhaust. I want to buy some rockers but dont know much about them. can someone point me in the right direction? Im not into heavily modifying my car because i dont have the technical knowledge to do so. I just want to install them easily without having to modify valve covers. Im not ever going to put new heads on or do a camshaft swap or anything like that. Ive heard about 1.6 magnums or crane 1.6 sa. I really need help in chosing.

In your position the cranes will fit you better. Your going to need to know how to adjust valve lash upon installation. (good to have somebody that has done that before nearby)

Roller rockers reduce friction compared to the stamped stock ones, along with change the ratio depending on the number 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 etc.
They make your valves open a little more, from what I understand. It is close to making your cam ever so slightly bigger but from the opposite end of the pushrod.

To my knowledge you shouldn't have to modify your valve covers with the cranes being they are narrow profile.
You want to get Self aligning (SA) unless you get hardened pushrods and guide plates.

I would go with headers before I went to rockers for bang for buck buddy. You will smile after putting set on.

Yeah thats them. I can say that it is a good idea to replace springs as well at the same time. (I would get some that would accommodate a small cam later. IMO)

I know you say you dont want to do anything else after these basic mods, but you never know how deep you can get into modding down the road. So thats why I would recommend keeping your options open via spring choice.

If it were me I would go with a hotcam kit after your headers. It is a mild cam that would work with everything you are putting on your car. I believe it includes the crane rockers and springs and cam.http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku

Your definitely making the right move about going with headers first. It will let the motor breath much better.

He will not be smiling after he installs a set of headers. In fact, he probably won't touch another wrench ever again.

You could always go with a set of LT4 springs as well, granted they will be more then enough to handle the 1.6 rockers, but won't be adequate for both rockers and a cam. Still, for the 35 bucks that a set costs, it isn't a big loss either.

Hi camarocrzy. I think I can help you out with your choice of Rockers. I run Competition Cams 1.6 aluminum rollers on the intake side and 1.5 rollers on the exhaust. The Comp Cams part number for the 1.6 ratio is 700-301 and the 1.5 ratio is 700-300. They are a direct replacement for the stock rockers. While you are at it, install hardened push rods. It will give you piece of mind and a stronger valve train. Another fun upgrade is in the ignition. Add an MSD 6A or 6AL along with some wires. A cold air induction kit is another fun and easy upgrade. About the only other things left would be the addition of some headers and a 52mm throttle body along with a computer recallibration. You will be a force on the street for sure! Be sure to verify the part numbers with a sales rep. I hope this helps you out.

Makes you a better mechanic. I have done things I never thought I would do with my car. Header install is not easy, but it is only once and some re tightening bolts. However adjusting valve lash is not a newbie game either.

headers, UD pulley and 1.6 crane SAs on stock tune and springs got me 305RWHP. Also, before a comment on the springs - I road raced it for 3 years and no broken springs - 6K RPM all day long. I'd do springs if I went to a bigger cam. $.02
