long story but I have to go carbed now. I sold all the injection parts. So I leave the computer plugged in but don't use any of the wires coming out of it. That kinda makes no sense. I wouldn't need any of them with the carb and convensional distrbuter.

You need the computer to run your factory gauges.

You just need a intake for 87 up SBC.And GM has 2 or 3 different intakes for both the LT1 and LT4.

Yes once you get the carb intake there will be a hole for the distributer to drop into.

having the hole there isn't the big deal, getting the distributor to fit under the cowling area is. People have done it but not without some fabrication.

Not true... the fuel level, oil pressure, voltmeter and coolant temp gauges are driven directly by sensors and do not require the PCM. The tach is driven off the ignition. Only the speedometer/odometer is driven off the stock PCM.

Another thing you have to consider is the fuel pump. That is turned on and off by the PCM, and if the PCM doesn't see the low resolution pulse from the Opti, it won't turn on the pump. You probably aren't going to use the intank pump (45psi) for a carb'd setup (5 - 10psi) anyway.

Big problem would be the speedo, but I think with a box from Dakota Digital, you could solve that one.

Or you could rip out your stock guage cluster, fab up a panel from brushed aluminum to fit, and mount a set of AutoMeter guages in there with the Speedo, Tach, etc...
