About to buy this Lt1 camaro, questions please?

the guy wants my twin turbo camaro, so he wants to trade me his Lt-1 camaro and some $1000 cash for it. I am liking the car very much, but there are some things I need to know before I take it, having never owned an Lt1 camaro before.

First of all its a 1994 Lt-1 / 6Speed with 112,000 miles. It has modifications, from what I can see for myself: Accel injectors, External In-line fuel pump, Headers, Exhaust, suspension. On the outside I can tell the front has been dropped, either cut springs or aftermarket suspension. there is a cowl hood, but non-functional.

My questions are simple, I think. It runs very strong, I dont detect the note ofo a performance cam in the exhaust, but that doesnt mean its not there as most of the Lt1 computer cams are 113-114LSA anyways, whatever.

point is, im worried about the optispark, Im worried about the external fuel pump, Im worried about the potential problems with a car with this many miles. the oil is amazingly clean, I may even say the motor had been rebuilt by the previous owner I have never seen oil this clean in a 112K mile motor. the transmission shifts like brand new as well, I am impressed personally. Now the external pump bothers me because im worried the previous owner left the internal pump in the tank where it probably died and put this external in.

can anyone think of anything extremelly dumb about me trading for this car?

I don't see why a pretty much "stock" camro will need bigger injectors and a in line fuel pump. Maybe he was running a blower or a dry shot of N2O. Maybe not (BTW Accel injectors are not the best brand out there... )

I think you should be able to notice if it had a custom cam (More if the car have headers/ exhaust)

You can get a new intank fuel pump from Racetronix for $250 (with all the wires and plugs for an easy install :P ) if you really want to have it that way.

Optis always goes bad... Probably his went already... do a search and you'll find out the phone # od Dan(?) or some that can give you killer deals on the opti

good luck

leo

Believe me, an external pump can't do anything without the stock pump working or removed. I tried! No fuel gets through if the stocker is off or incapacitated, so the stocker must be working if the car still runs.

But yeah, he must have had a reason for it, I put one on my car with the stocker running my wet shot, before I swapped it out for the Walbro.

Hope that helps.

thats interesting news, so he was probably spraying the motor then...
Or the motor before it blew and was rebuilt. hmm.

Let me ask, if the injectors are bigger than stock, wouldnt the ECU need reprograming? So lets assume the ECU is stock and the injectors are stock Lt1 Lb/Hr what is that, 21lb/hr? @ 44 PSI I assume?

Who thinks this car is worth $6K? without seeing it, I know, but from the small list of mods, and me saying loaded / leather / power etc... 112K miles, oil looks like new, tranny shifts like new, current owner has had car for 6 months, fuel pump went bad (just replaced it last week when I drove it) car runs like it should now...

Oh yeah, and is the in-tank pump require the axle / exhaust to be dropped on a fourth gen like a thirdgen camaro? if so, thats a big UGGGHH for me.

I am leary of the mods, and the optispark / Lt-1 specific inclusions, but I am impressed with the way it runs.

The axle needs to be dropped to get the tank out but not necessarily the pump out. Cut an access panel from the top to get the pump out. Theres a guide on it that you can find somewhere on the board.

What years is your twin turbo camaro? It sounds like the car was being run with nitrous and might have ben rebuilt. My car is a little younger than the one your buying, I'd save the money and buy a newer LS1 camaro. At that age the suspension is going to start going. Your going to start running into a whole bunch of maintenance problems. The car runs great, that's cool, but why trade a twin turbo that you already own for an LT1??

Also, i'd go for either a 95 or a 96-97 LT1.
