able to widen stock wheels?

well, didn't really know where to put this but...
if i wanted to keep my stockers but still get more traction on a z28 i might be getting, could i have them widened somehow? like make them from 16x8's or whatever to like 16x9.5's or something?
i know i could just buy new wheels but i would rather have the stockers on.
well thanks for any help

and if i didn't clarify enough, let me know

Yes, it is possible, but it is expensive, and there are drawbacks. Go to the ws6.com website.... he has a writeup on widening his stock 17x9 WS6 wheels to 17x11.

The downside is that the extra width can only be added at the rear of the wheel, increasing the backspace. To "recenter" the wheel, you get into a situation where you need "spacers", and some people don't like those at all.
