Aahhh, Can't Decide What Headers

Can't choose between MAC midlength headers and Jet-Hot Longtubes. How long to install the jet-hots? How long for the Macs? Horsepower difference? Sound Difference? Which is easier to install and what will work best for the XE227/233 Cam I will be purchasing? Reason I am debating is because the MACS are cheaper for total cost I believe and should be easier to install....

Why aren't you considering Pacesetter LT's?

I know their shorties were junk, but these new LT's are supposed to be the *****. I'm still waiting for mine in the mail, but I got the Race Headers Ceramic coated with O2 extensions, gaskets, and hardware for $450 shipped to my door.

They dont require you to raise the motor in order to install, have better ground clearance than hookers/jet hots, and supposed to have better plug access too. I'll let you know how I feel about them when they arrive Tuesday.

If you have the funds, TPiS or Finish Line Performance long tubes are the way to go...

For the money, Pacesetters are supposed to be the new fad...it used to be the Hooker LT's and then it was the Jet-Hot's...

If your going to cam the car I would go with LTs and nothing else. Either Jet-Hots or Pacesetter's would work great. Personally I'm a fan of the Jet-Hots myself.

I am leaning towards the Jet-Hots. I'm 16 and saving up for both headers and cam..... So funds are an issue.

Pacesetter makes their own Y-pipe for $125. There are several threads mentioning this stuff....do a search.

If you're trying to save money, well....

Jet Hots w/their Y-pipe = $770 shipped

Pacesetters w/their Y-pipe = $548 shipped, easier install

The pacesetters are good quality except for the egr fitting. The coating is awesome. i would recommend them to anybody, just make sure u hook up the egr first then the header on the block. They dont hit the floorboard like the others and plug access is good. Make sure to go ceramic. flp plug access is bad and bad with burning wires. I am very impressed with the pacesetters over my bbk's. Go with coated pacesetters, u wont regret it. Thanks, Michael

Just from an install point of view, I've heard nothing but bad stories from long tubes but I hear they are well worth it. I put the MACs on with very little trouble. Only bad thing from them is I had to take the y-pipe to a local exhaust shop and have some of the bend taken out of it. Other than that, I'm very happy with the way the MACs went. If you have a cam, then you would probably want the long tubes to take the most advantage of it. I'll probably be going with the LT4 Hot Cam which is milder I'm sure so the MACs will be fine for me. Good luck.

long tubes give bigger gains across the RPM's....except someone tested the mac mids against LT's and saw +12-15 rwhp at 6700 rpms and above over the LT's...
