A4 won't reverse
A4 won't reverse
I have a 95 A4. I just moved to Abilene where it is a lil colder than what my car is use to in Houston. Today I parked my car at the dorm. Then 2 hours later I went to throw it in reverse and leave and it won't going backwards. The auto shifter shifted in reverse. The reverse lights came on but the car won't go anywheres. It feel like it's still in neutral. When i hit the gas it just revs up. I thought maybe I just had it in reverse so I shift to park then back to reverse. Car still won't back up. So i throw it in drive and the car drives forward. Throw it in reverse the car still won't back up. Do anyone know whats wrong with it? I need help now. I got to drive home this weekend. Thanks
hm.. similar thing happened to me, but it was in a 700r4 and not sure of difference, but a wingnut had backed out from transmission, so it wouldnt go in reverse or first I think (been a long while)
See I think it could have been the shift cable bracket. B/c i figured if the whole tranny broke none of the other gears would work. Plus it felt and sounded like i hit something when the reverse broke. So I guess i'll hope its the shift cable bracket.

i could only go back in P and drive in N til i tigthened the bolt put it to 1 (was hard to get into 1) and go back to P
No all other gears work fine. I thought maybe that had happen but all drives work as their drive is suppost too and nuetral works like it's suppost to along with park. It's just reverse
