A4 won't reverse

I have a 95 A4. I just moved to Abilene where it is a lil colder than what my car is use to in Houston. Today I parked my car at the dorm. Then 2 hours later I went to throw it in reverse and leave and it won't going backwards. The auto shifter shifted in reverse. The reverse lights came on but the car won't go anywheres. It feel like it's still in neutral. When i hit the gas it just revs up. I thought maybe I just had it in reverse so I shift to park then back to reverse. Car still won't back up. So i throw it in drive and the car drives forward. Throw it in reverse the car still won't back up. Do anyone know whats wrong with it? I need help now. I got to drive home this weekend. Thanks

If it's not the shift cable bracket that has come loose under the car, it's going to be time for a transmission rebuild.

See I think it could have been the shift cable bracket. B/c i figured if the whole tranny broke none of the other gears would work. Plus it felt and sounded like i hit something when the reverse broke. So I guess i'll hope its the shift cable bracket.
