A4 cars with big cams???

dont see many that run that well, would a comp 306 or say 230/236 work well if the car had heads, 3500+converter,gear and shift points at 6500?

trying to find a cam to make some power for my A4.
would like nice TQ numbers, i dont mind spinning the motor high,
im just dont know what cam to make these cars work.

I wouldn't want to shift the car any further than 6500 on the stock bottom end, bearings wouldn't like it. I shift my car at 6400. Gas milage is horrible though with the 306. It doesn't like to start to move until about 2000 rpm, and I've got to rev it out to about 2800 to keep up with traffic from a stop light.

IMO, I'd recommend the 305 or LT4 hot cam, and a 3000ish converter, a friend of mine's running 12.2's with all the regular boltons, LT4 hotcam and ET Streets. I haven't gotten to the track with some sticky tires to get a comparable time to see what the difference is, but we're trapping about the same.

Edit: When I throw my 355 motor together, I'm going to be going with a smaller duration cam.

I don't have a 306, but it's only a little bigger and advanced. Made numbers below with Stage II RGR heads, 11:1 CR forged bottom.

nice numbers, i would like to see track times,
maybe these cars are more important to setuo right,
matching the converter with peak tq, and gears to stay in the power band for the percentage of your time.

when you say shifting you mean shift points right?
what times on motor? nitrous could help a whole lot with the low end TQ. Nice times, so something's gotta be working, how big of gear?

I've got the XE236/242 cam and all periphials with stock converter and tranny....tranny is shot at WOT but part throttle will shift fine and still having tuning issues.

But the cam is much more streetable than I though it would, but doesnt want to creep along, wants to up and go.

Check out my sig. Still have stock torque converter, gas mileage is not too bad (around 24 mpg on the highway). Runs fantastic, a little lopey, but I like that. Key is good tuning (cannot stress that enough)!!

I mean that at WOT, the car will shift from 1-2 with major slippage, and the 2-3 shift aint happenin at WOT at all...have to let way off and let it shift.

Part throttle (city driving, normal highway driving) it shifts fine.
