987 vs 918 Valve Springs
987 vs 918 Valve Springs
Ive been reading mix reviews on intalling these springs on my heads without having the be machined to fit. Does anyone know for sure which springs can drop in and go without any issues. Thanks just getting ready to buy and want be sure which ones to get.
Nope not dumb at all..........not everyone has had a chance to look at your thread.
Anyway..........the Beehive springs will not require any machining. The 987's will. My opinion and those of some other head porters on this board that is a vendor is that the 987's are not up to the task for handling more aggressive lobes. The PAC or later batches of the CC Beehives would be your best bet in my opinion.
I ran the 986's(same dimension specs as the 987's) for some time and later switched to the PAC 1218's of which cured my valve float issues.

No machining that I know of, just the correct lock and possibly shim set up. My heads were machined prior for the different springs so my combo is different than what someone with stock heads would be. He will need to purchase the following products as listed by Lloyd to me when I inquired through him:
"I would get the 26918-16 bee hives, 795-16 retainers, 611-16 locks and 4705-16 locators.
Set them up at 1.750" and adjust the rockers to 1/16 past zero lash."
Also he will need to get new valve seals for his valves and a measuring tool to measure the installed height to see if he will need shims.
You can also use different locks if the above listed ones don't get you in the ballpark.

Summit doesnt show the 795 retainers i was going to use the 787s which are recommended on the site and the 10 degree locks which are the 611s iirc. So i for sure need locators i thought you just needed the springs, retainers, locks and make sure to set them to the installed height? Im going to be having a friend help with the install since ive never done a cam swap and dont feel confortable doing so by myself.
