986 or 987 springs for a cc306?

just curious as to which valve springs to run. comp says to use 986 but i thought i read somewhere that the 987 could be used- something about gaining a little more rpm since it was a stiffer spring. also would it matter since i am going to use an afr rev kit?

I usually like to go a little extra, so I would go ahead with the 987 Springs.

makes sense to me- but i didn't know if the added stress on the valvetrain would hurt anything.

The dual springs require machining of the cylinder head spring pockets. If the heads aren't coming off then you might want to use the 26918 beehive springs.

these aren't on a stock head- they are going on a set of dart pro1's- i think those will take a dual spring as is.

Re: 986 or 987 springs for a cc306?

back in the day i had a certain cam and comp recommended the 986 spring set it took me roughly 4 months to get everything all together and in the first 3500 mi.i had a broken spring astually it was two, valve dropped fortunately did not hurt my new JE pistons called comp and spoke with them about the problem, the tech said "no that cam requires the 987 spring"so now i was hotttt cause my cam card suggested the 986 for this cam..what a can of beans i had fortunately the semashow was the following week and they brought a set of 987s to me at no cost!truly their fault but they did not have to take care of me cause the amount of time was roughly 1 year,if you think you will be satisfied with the 986 spring go directly to the 987 or 918 you will not be happier,i use either on STOCK engines(987 or 918)

good advice- thanks. i understand a lot about cars, performance, and trouble shooting problems- an automatic tranny and cylineder head hardware are not my forte.

987's it is!! thanks.
