I have an oportunity to get a 98 motor and trans with 63000 miles on them to put in my 94. Is this possible?

It's possible, but don't do it. 96+ will be ODB II, and that will be a pain to convert.

Also, there are hood clearance issues with the LS1 (98-02) under an LT1 (93-97) hood.

Your best bet for engine donors are 94 and 95 Z28s.

You take the motor/trans/engine harness/VCM/K-member and put it under the LT1 car.
I have no hood issues, I use an elbow and an LT1 CAI.

You put yours in a '97, which is ODB II. Makes things a lot simpler. In an ODB I car, none of the diagnostic systems will work. Might be trouble with some of the gauges, too.

Cool. I'm glad to be wrong about that one.

OK, I will give ya that, the gauges will be an issue but even with an OBDII car it can be issues still, I have had to work/search on how to get mine to work and still cant get the temp gauge to work so I will have an aftermarket one eventually.

Just be prepared to do alot of wiring, I hate wiring!!
Be sure to get the ALDL cable as well :-)

It can be done but really, as cheap as some of the LS1 cars are becoming, why not get one with one already in it.

or, you can trade me your ls1 engine for a low mileage LT1 engine out of an 1995 firebird... that will make life simple for you.

That might work, Tom. Send sailbrd a PM.

This is also a non-issue. The only way he can run an LS1 engine in his car is to run an LS1 PCM. The PCM contains the diagnostics, and it matches the sensors on his engine. At this point, he no longer has an OBD-I 94.... he has an OBD-II 94.

Gauges will be as simple as a dash cluster change.

But the dash in a '94 is different from the dash in a '97+. I suppose he could use a '96 cluster...

The dash is not "OBD-I" or "OBD-II". All he has to do is make the wiring changes.
