97 zz4

friend of mine is buying a 97 zz4 tomarrow and Im a 300zx man myself, but Im also a smart enough shopper to come here and ask questions... Hes going from a maxima to this so hes in awe at the sheer sight so all he hears is the v8...
What are the biggest problems on the fourth gens to look for?
what are the estimated buying prices?
whats this car estimated run at the 1/4?
what should I look for when I drive it ( i drive it tom)
whats the big diff on the zz4 to the lt1?
I looked arround for a FAQ but couldnt find one, in fact this is the most compleete site I found...
any and all help would be appriciated..

I was guessing that engine, the engine is different(what seller said)
also it has a zz4 graphic on both sides of the car on the door pannel, I Havent seen it yet personally and I tried finding it on auto trader.
but its advertised as a zz4, and it has the graphic, figured it was a package

Well there is a 350ci crate engine called a ZZ4 but its a non-emmissions crate motor which is most commmonly used for pre-74 carb'ed applications. Now it is possible to place that motor into a 4th gen F-body and fuel inject it, but it doesnt seem like the most practical thing to do.

I think its about a ~350hp motor give or take.

Anyways, to answer your questions. Assuming its a stock Z28, with a LT1 motor.

1. The biggest problem is the optispark ignition which can crap out on you.

2. A LT1 should run anywhere from $5000 for a high milage '93 to 12k for a low milage '97 special edition car (ie. WS6, SS etc.)

3. Well driven the car should be anywher from a 13.8-14.2. Id say most cars average about 14 flat in the quarter stock.

4. Im not sure of any particualr problems to look out for. Just make sure the car is solid top to bottom. Also check small things like the window motors, the lights etc. Make sure everythign is working properly. Stuff tends to die as the cars age approaches 10 years.

5. Like I said earlier, the ZZ4 is a GM crate motor. Its rated at more hp than the LT1, but is usually not fuel injected. I think the ZZ4 comes with aluminum heads like the LT1 but I'm not sure. The LT1s also have reverse flow cooling which the ZZ4 wont have. I'm not exactly sure how one would go about doing the swap unless the whole engine was just redone.

Hope that helps a bit.

it looks pretty much the stock engine with some upgrades... its Z4. Seller said it was a package, its got decals and both sides and a inlay on the back window.. Its droped prety freakin low.. the guy put flows on it but thats as much as I know.. He did buy the car though...
Hes such as wuss in it. He wont race anyone then later he says "i coulda beat that car!" and then he says lets go get chicks.. but doesnt want to waste gas...WTF he keeps asking me for gas money, and I said we could just take my truck... maybe he'll grow less scared of the car... its crazy fast but man even Im not that scared..

Is the car carburated? How much did he pay for it?
There has never been a factory zz4 or z4 option in the 4th gen. Those stickers are pretty cheap to buy and put on the car . Take and run the VIN and you will find that it comes up as a Z28
