'97 Z28, 6-speed daily driver?
'97 Z28, 6-speed daily driver?
There is a nice '97 Z28 low mileage hardtop, black with a 6-speed and leather interior in my area.
The price looks really good, that got me thinking about buying it as my daily driver.
Some of you might know that we have somewhat high gasprices here in Europe, so i'm also interested in the mpg you are getting with your 6-speed LT1? Actually I'm driving around 60 miles per day mostly highway at 65mph.
What are the pros and cons of a car like that as a daily?

I drive my 95 every day, and I have work done; including gears on a 6 speed. I drive highway and city. I don't think the gas issues is all that bad. I wouldn't do it with an auto, but with the 6th gear, it really keeps the rpms at a manageable level on the highway. Only downside is when you get the urge to get on the car and have some fun, the gas does go quickly...
When my car was bone stock I got 18 or so straight city, 22-24 mixed and 30 straight highway in 6th keeping it around 70mph. Anything more like 80 or so and it fell a little bit, maybe 27ish, can't remember it's been a while since I was stock.
Gas prices are high in Europe,I hadn't noticed
.
Go for it,sounds like a nice car,wish I had the hard-top version.
Turn the traction control off and waste those Euroboxes, just expect to visit your local gas station on a regular basis.
Regards,Mark

Don't get me wrong! I just don't want to stumble into something blindly!
I know that we have to pay to play
Actually I'm driving a '87 Fiero and average 30mpg highway and 26-27 mixed.
aahhhh, decisions....

I get around 60 miles out of £20 worth of fuel, but then most of my miles are done around town and I have a lead foot

On a run up the motorway in 5th and 6th gear, economy is surprisingly good.I have no regrets on using mine as a daily driver for the past 2 years.
You already have 3 cars, you must be rich,go on,treat yourself.
By the way, that black 3rd Gen is a credit to you, beautiful looking car.

I think you could easily match your current MPG with a well-running LT1, and have more fun to boot!
The Volvo was my car but now my gf uses it as her daily driver. So for me there still is the '91 Camaro. The Fiero would have to go when I would buy the '97.
Thanks for the compliment for the '91
In the history of owning the car i have gotten anywhere from 12 all the way up to 33.
the 33 was all highway, and can no doubt be attributed to my cold air intake and free flowing exhaust (long tube headers, and no catalytic converters). I havent gotten worse than 15 since i did the headers, even going to the track.
headers gained me a solid 3 mpg average.

I've got a 95, M6, with lots of mods including 4.11s in the rear. We don't have a lot of highways in So Cal (we do but they don't move) to get hwy mileage so I'd call it mixed at 16 mpg with WOTs whenever possible.
I did a Vegas run with about 23 mpg... again, 4.11s in the rear. That's 2300 RPM at 80 MPH.
