96 SS Cruise Control Stuck WFO while driving!

All,

By reading the posts it's easy to tell most folks dont care for cruise control, but I have a weird / almost deadly problem that I need to fix. I know that I could just remove the cruise but I am a stickler for all things working and working correctly.

About a year ago I was driving with cruise on at about 65, then all of the sudden, the engine surged and I discovered the throttle was WFO. Nothing would cancel (brake, clutched, switching cruise off, engine off...) So I turned off the engine and coasted to a stop. When I opened the hood and checked the TB was still stuck open. So I disconnected the cruise cable and drove home.

I replaced the cruise module.

I had a similar problem this week. Driving in town, cruise on but NOT engaged. All of the sudden WFO. Again I braked, clutched turned off cruise and finally after braking several times it disengaged.

any ideas?

Could be a wiring problem causing engagement of the cruise and the resume sticking on. Chafed wires inside the column would be the first place I would look.

I was thinking the same, but why WFO (I mean butterfly wide open)?

A bit off subject, but my Mom had a 84 Olds station wagon and needed the cruise repaired. The dealer frigged up and the cruise kicked in whenever you pushed the brake pedal. Now thats scary.
